Introduction
The primary aim of this assessment task is to develop a young player development model of your choice in
relation to developing 13-16 year olds engaged in sport and/or physical activity in Hong Kong.
The assessment will be summatively assessed by the submission of an individual1
coaching report and
programme.
The assessment is worth 50% of the overall module grade, and , and will be capped at a mark of 40%.

For this assessment, you will be expected to:
1. Individually identify a target population on which to plan and design a programme of fundamental
movement or fundamental sports skills
2. Critically evaluate the development of young people, paying special attention to the specific demands of the
identified target population (i.e. able-bodied or disabled, male or female, age group etc.)
3. Using this understanding, prepare a brief report underlining the philosophy and design of the programme,
using high-quality evidence to underpin your rationale and decision-making
4. Design a coaching programme for an annual academic cycle (September to May) for the target group,
ensuring that consideration is made of the overall objectives for the year

5. Design a meso-cycle from within the programme, detailing six, one-hour sessions that will develop the target
group in a holistic way (i.e. socially, physically and psychologically) and submit this in tabular form to
accompany the report
6. Prepare and submit one session plan from the six-week meso-cycle to provide a more detailed example of
the approach that you will take to developing the physical, emotional and social characteristics of your target
group
Word Length and Penalties
The word length of the summative assessment, excluding references, is 1500 wordsi
. Further details of the
breakdown of the word count can be found in the mark scheme below.
Work that is >10% over the word limit will be penalised by 10% of the available marks, i.e. you would lose 10
marks on this assessment task. Note that all text, apart from the list of references at the end of a document
and text in appendices, is included in the word count.
Format
The assignment should be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format4
. Popular alternatives (such as
OpenOffice, MacOS files such as Pages, Numbers and Keynote and Google Docs) need to be converted prior to
submission using the ‘Save As’ functionality built-in to the software/platform. Assessment not submitted in the
specified format will receive a zero mark. Standard presentation requirements (size 11 font, 1.5 line spacing,
2.5 cm margins) should be strictly adhered to.

Turnitin should be used to assess your assignment for accidental plagiarism prior to the hand-in date. Once
your document is uploaded, allow up to a day for your work to be checked. You can do this as often as you like

Once the deadline has passed, the final submission will be used in conjunction with the marking of your
assignment submitted electronically to ascertain whether cheating, as defined in the University’s assessment
