Movie Grave of the Fireflies, War and its Aftermaths

Analyze how your movie approaches its subject. How does it portray war, both generally and specifically? (Think of how Kubrick in Paths of Glory comments somewhat abstractly on the politics of war but also gets very specific in documenting some of the unique hardships of World War I.) How does the film employ history, on the one hand, and drama or mythology, on the other? What does it have to tell us about how people and communities and nations deal with, process, and/or recover from war?
