N451 – Topic 2 DQ 3

S‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌elect a topic; which I did for you and I want you to write about this >>> Catheter-associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) in hospitals and we have to propose a quality improvement initiative in this post. Post your idea and basic thoughts about the topic. So the first part is about my post which you will write about and then you need to respond to 2 different posts which I will have the students post here for you so you can respond to them as you need to provide thoughts to my peers about their topics and ideas that may assist them in completing their projects. Also, from their post you can get ideas how and what to write, but please do not copy paste anything from them. My professor is very big on APA style and here is what she needs from me: For an article title in a reference, only capitalize the first word, proper nouns, & the first word after a colon or hyphen. References: capitalize the journal title in a reference; need publisher for book- not location. Reminder: Please indicate the answer for each so I would know what part of the question you are talking about or responding. References are needed to be within the last 5 years and not older and need at least 2 to 3 references for this assignment. Please do not copy and paste from the original site but use your own word and understanding and write about it. Please answer each question and its requirements carefully. Each paragraph you write about in my post must have a reference/s. Dear writer please reach out to me if you have any question. Thank you Below are the 2 posts from other students then you need to respond to each one of them and each need references. APA style and please follow as I mentioned above that my professor is very big on APA so I would not want any other notification from her. ———————————— Student #1: Inpatient falls, which have been identified as one of the leading causes of injury and death in hospitals and health care facilities, are the subject of my research. The statistics on inpatient falls are horrifying to read, and health care facilities have a long way to go to reduce and prevent these incidents from occurring. According to research, over 800,000 patients suffer falls every year, with 85 percent of them involving people over the age of 65 years. The elderly patients suffer greatly as a result of their weakened state due to old age and the presence of various health conditions (Cuttler, Barr-Walker & Cuttler, 2017). An alarming number of these patients suffer severe injuries, including fractures, broken bones, and head injuries. Occasionally, these falls result in the death of the patient. In addition to these negative consequences, inpatient falls are associated with increased costs, patient dissatisfaction, and a lengthened stay in the hospital. The delivery of health care includes considerations for the quality of care and the safety of patients. In order to achieve these go‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌als, the rate of inpatient falls must be reduced through the use of effective prevention strategies in the hospital setting. Through quality improvement programs, it is necessary to individualize the prevention of falls in health care settings, which is currently lacking (Cho & Lee, 2017). There must be a variety of interventions in place to ensure that inpatient falls are eliminated. More training and education among health care providers, patients, and the public is required to prevent falls successfully. References Cho, M. S., & Lee, H. Y. (2017). Sepsis accounts for one in three deaths in the hospital each year, and accounts for higher healthcare and hospital associated costs (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). The need for quality improvement measures within the hospital is imperative in decreasing mortalities in the hospital by early detection. Evidence and data have proved that early detection is the key to improving patient outcomes with sepsis and decreasing mortality rates. Sepsis protocol involves quick intervention that requires the rapid detection and onset of infection. According to a study by Paoli et al. (20180, the timing of sepsis diagnosis is critical in terms of outcomes given the acute and significant impact of the condition and poor sepsis outcomes are observed when diagnosis and treatment are delayed and when sepsis develops or is not detected until after hospital admission. This calls for qualoty improvement methods within hospitals that integrate early detection warnings, sepsis screenings, thorough sepsis workup upon admission, and rapid intervention and monitoring. Using informatics, data, and enhanced hospital training would be beneficial in treating patients with sepsis and lead to lower hospital costs and improved outcomes.
