Safety Risk Management

Aims The aim of this assignment is to develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the practices associated with risk and safety management. Learning Outcomes On completion of the project the student should: • Be familiar with the administrative and legal controls of health and safety in the workplace. • Be able to develop a convincing argument for or against a robust approach to health and safety interventions through the use of risk assessment. • Be able to critically evaluate strategies to encourage the use of risk assessment bas a tool for reducing risk in the workplace. Brief As the newly appointed Health, Safety and Wellbeing Director in a company which currently has a ISO9001 and ISO14001 management system, you have recognised that the ISO 45001 health and safety management system requires significant improvement. The Chief Executive is keen to integrate health and safety with these two systems and has asked you to produce a fully referenced 3000-word management report detailing the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. It is not sufficient to simply describe a health and safety management system. The report must include a strategy for the implementation of a system which is based on a foundation of published research, guidance and standards which must be fully referenced in the report. The report should be structured and include an executive summary and a suitable action plan. You are free to make any reasonable assumptions about the company and these should be included where appropriate as an appendix to the report. The inclusion of novel and creative approaches to the strategy are encouraged. General Instructions You should research a range of reference materials including recent published research relating to the topic you are discussing. Journal articles on research can be found through the portal in the e-library using science direct, for guidance on accessing journals and eBooks online please refer to the accessing electronic resources guide on Moodle. The work is to be word-processed, double or 1.5-line spacing Arial or Calibri, 12 Font, aligned to the left hand of the page and appropriately referenced using the Harvard system of referencing. Submissions should be a maximum of 2000 words (+/- 10%) and a word count must be included.
