Unit 4: Sex and Self-Determination – Discussion Section 2

This week we started off talking about violence against women (VAW), sexual assault and rape culture. Then we moved into a discussion about sex work and pornography and how a lot of these issues are complex and involve ‘gray areas.’ Some ideas to consider: What are some examples of rape culture** in the media that you can find? What kinds of things are being done to end VAW and sexual assault? Give examples, share media, find examples of people and groups fighting against or working to change society. — OR– What are your thoughts on the forced vs. voluntary dichotomy in sex work or the purported differences between sex tourism and romance tourism?
